HOW CAN I PAY FOR HOME HEALTH CARE

The cost of home health care varies across states and within states. In addition, costs will fluctuate depending on the type of health care professional required. Home care services can be paid for directly by the patient and his or her family members, or through a variety of public and private sources. Sources for home health care funding include Medicare, Medicaid, the Older Americans Act, the Veterans’ Administration, and private insurance.
Medicare is the largest single payer of home care services. The Medicare program will pay for home health care if all of the following conditions are met:
• The patient must be homebound and under a doctor’s care;
• The patient must need skilled nursing care, or occupational, physical, or speech therapy,
on at least an intermittent basis (that is, regularly but not continuously)
• The services provided must be under a doctor’s supervision and performed as part of a
home health care plan written specifically for that patient
• The patient must be eligible for the Medicare program and the services ordered must
   be “medically reasonable and necessary”
• The home health care agency providing the services must be certified by the
   Medicare program.

WHAT SERVICES DO YOU NEED

Home care services can enhance your health and quality of life by helping you maintain your independence. The type of home care service you may need depends on factors such as your mental and physical health, what kind of support you have from family or friends, and whether you live in your own home or in a facility that provides some types of assistance. Home care services can range from help with chores to professional health care and rehabilitation.

Different Types of Taxi Insurance

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Looking at the increasing number of road accidents, as well as vehicle theft, insurance for your vehicle is a must. Getting coverage for a vehicle means that at the time of damage or theft, the company from whom the policy is taken will cover the cost of damages, or will pay for the cost of the vehicle in case of theft. Many of the firms are offering insurance policies on a commercial basis as well, one example being the introduction of taxi insurance in which cover is provided for taxis, cabs and even vans. Private hire insurance policies, as well as public hire insurance policies, are two types of taxi insurance policies available. In comparison to the public hire insurance policy, private hire insurance policies are a lot more expensive as they involve a higher risk.

These types of taxi insurances are very popular these days, as having taxis for public as well as private hire includes a lot of risks, and not opting for any kind of insurance policy will make the running of taxis unaffordable. But one must also be very careful in choosing the company from whom the insurance is obtained, as it is a very specialised field, and very few companies are providing it at genuine prices. Getting a cheap taxi insurance policy may not be a very hard nut to crack because of the competition between the companies.

Obtaining these taxi insurance policies is very easy, as one may register directly over the net or can even consult any executive from the taxi insurance company. The best way to get cheap taxi insurance is to directly get in contact with the wholesale insurance agents as they are well trained and can calculate the minimum amount of premium required to obtain a taxi insurance policy. The prices, or the premium, of the policy is relatively cheap, if there is a good number of a taxis included in the policy. Apart from this, there are three types of taxi insurance policies offered by companies and they are: third party, fully comprehensive, and third party fire & theft.

Business tourism helps capital to avoid trade downturn

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

ABU DHABI // The capital’s tourism sector has been synonymous with business travel, but tourism officials say they intend to make pleasure travel a more important the sector in coming years.

bilde

Business tourism, one of the most resilient sectors of the economy, has protected Abu Dhabi from the economic downturn. But tourism officials say the addition of travel for pleasure would boost the local economy even further.

“The majority of travel that happens in Abu Dhabi is either business travel or expats living here that want to go home a couple of times every year, and outbound tourism is the bulk of travel agencies’ business here,” said Hani Khorsheed, the secretary general of the Abu Dhabi Agencies Committee.

“The reason why our business has not been affected by the economic crisis is because there is no tourism here yet.”

Abu Dhabi will host Business Tourism Week in March, incorporating the Gulf Meetings and Events Conference, the Gulf Incentive, Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition, and an event organised by the Society of Incentive Travel Executives. More than 250 exhibitors are expected.

Mubarak al Muhairi, the director general of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, (ADTA) said improving business tourism was one of the authority’s major tasks, but it was also planning to build the leisure sector.

Mr al Muhairi said the authority would reach its 2012 target of 2.7 million hotel guests a year by aiming for “discerning tourists who have a keen interest in heritage and culture”.

Saadiyat Island, scheduled to open in 2018, has been touted as the main attraction for what the Abu Dhabi Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) calls .

Rita Aoun-Abdo, the art and culture advisor at the TDIC, said Saadiyat Island would distinguish Abu Dhabi from Dubai and other GCC countries. “We’re using art and culture as a catalyst to position Abu Dhabi locally and internationally,” Ms Aoun-Abdo said.

Antonia Carver, the editor of Bidoun, a Middle East arts and culture magazine, said Abu Dhabi had high hopes for cultural tourism, even though it was “starting from zero”.

“In the Gulf, it’s a new idea to go to an art museum. They’re thinking of putting in a museum before they’ve thought about an arts school and this is totally unusual,” Ms Carver said.

“But there’s also big, new middle-class tourism nations, like India, and bringing them here might be a real possibility.”

Bassem Kudsi, a spokesman for the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Adach), said as long as the emirate had something truly unique to offer, the tourists should come.

“We have the geography, things like Sir Bani Yas Island,” Mr Kudsi said. “We have the camel festival, the sand dunes. With other events we’re targeting European travellers, like the Abu Dhabi Classics programme. It takes time but we are starting to build a critical mass.”

ADTA was working on other ways to attract more leisure tourists, with plans to expand overseas promotion, through 17 exhibitions, three more than last year, in 11 countries.

It will have promotions at the China Incentive Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition, the China International Travel Market, and other exhibitions in Italy.

Most of them are in the dark age of their lives. All the fears and insecurities are there. At an old age, other people younger than you seem not to pay that much attention. Having a pet would allow you to touch, be touched and feel how it is to pamper somebody is. The activities they could share like walking around or having some jogging would be very healthful too.

Animals, outstandingly these cuddly and affectionate cats as pets also keep us feel far from being lonely and bored. Dogs and cats, also other animals, are now being trained and so they learn to do tricks and to entertain people. They are so facetious and they could unravel the child in us. As a form of emotional outlet, they could ease stress and make us feel more relaxed.

Every pet could furnish you with different positive feelings. Birds and fish are so attention-catching. Looking at them would get you feel at peace without exerting too much strain. Staring at fish in an aquarium or pond gives one the peace of mind and the relaxation against a stressful time. These pets could also employees you build the focus or concentration you need to start a task or the like.

Medical Tourism: Traveling For Health

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Author: Kilian

Medical tourism is all the rage in many countries nowadays. Many patients who require complex surgeries or medical procedures for their ailments are now traveling abroad to get treated. Patients from UK, USA, and many other developed countries are moving to Asian countries like India, Hong Kong, Malaysia, China, Singapore, Philippines, and Thailand. In these countries, these people receive superior healthcare at a fraction of what it would cost in their homeland.

Reasons for people opting for medical tourism

There are many reasons for which people from developed countries choose to get their ailments treated abroad. Some of the important reasons include:

  1. The quality of healthcare services that they find in the other countries often rivals what they would receive at home. Most of the doctors and healthcare professionals are highly qualified. Besides, most hospitals and healthcare facilities are equipped with state of the art provisions for treatment.
  2. The cost of treatment in the countries noted for medical tourism is often a fraction of what is required for same services at developed countries. In fact, for a fraction of the price required in US for a heart bypass, patients from US can travel to India, get treated, and top it off with a small vacation at any popular tourist destination within the country.
  3. Employer-sponsored healthcare policies are now starting to include complete cost coverage of healthcare for employees who travel abroad to get treated. This has resulted in the employees getting good healthcare and the employer having to pay much less.
  4. Some contagious diseases, such as, tuberculosis, typhoid, and malaria are often misdiagnosed in developed countries because most doctors and healthcare officials believe such diseases cannot happen in their country. In tropical countries like India, Malaysia, Philippines, etc., doctors are more open to accepting the possibility that the patient might indeed have a contagious disease.
  5. Last, but not the least, many insurance companies in the developed countries are now providing full coverage of the healthcare costs incurred by the insured patient choosing to get treatment done abroad. The patients are happy because they are getting good healthcare plus the benefit of a vacation, while the insurance company has to pay a much smaller amount to the patient.

All these benefits have inspired many patients in developed countries to opt for treatments for their ailments in foreign country. In the coming years, health tourism is expected to gain even more popularity.

Merkel holds anti-crisis summit

Friday, May 8th, 2009

BERLIN - GERMAN Chancellor Angela Merkel, under fire over her reaction to the financial crisis, called together business leaders, ministers and experts on Sunday to discuss ways of escaping the international recession.

‘No concrete measure was decided,’ Economy Minister Michael Glos said after the six-hour meeting finished.

The goal of the meeting had been to reflect on possible measures, he added, with the government aiming to decide on specific actions by the end of January.

Finance Minister Peer Steinbrueck said everything would be done to avoid job losses.

The time had come for ‘us to take joint responsibility, as the government cannot handle the economic situation alone’, Ms Merkel told a press conference before the meeting.

Ms Merkel has made defending German jobs a top priority but increasing numbers have been lost in Europe’s biggest economy in recent weeks.

The criticism of the government has particularly hurt as Ms Merkel’s Christian Democrats (CDU) prepare for a legislative election in 2009. The CDU is in a coalition with the Social Democrats (SPD).

German economic experts and officials have said her 31 billion euro (40 billion dollar) economic stimulus is not enough.

Other European Union members have also pressured for Merkel to spend more.

Quoting government sources, the weekly Wirtschaftswoche reported the government is preparing a second 30-billion-euro economic plan that will include investment and fiscal incentives.

The package is not expected to be announced until the end of January, giving Merkel time to prepare an anti-crisis strategy within the government, the weekly said.

Ms Merkel is to meet state and local government leaders this week.

Der Spiegel magazine said in its latest edition that the government now expects the economy to shrink by two per cent in 2009. The official government forecast is for a fall of up to one per cent. — AFP

School’s cell phone ban is right move

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Today, Fayetteville Christian School takes a big step toward curbing cell phone abuse among students.

Students win, although they probably don’t feel that way.

Going forward, teachers and staff will confiscate cell phones they find on students and hold the devices until the end of the school day.

I hope more schools follow Fayetteville Christian’s lead.

School Headmaster Tammi Peters says students were caught twice this year texting test answers.

But even outside of cheating, the new policy is a common sense way of stopping students from texting during class and ignoring their lessons. Some FCS children claim that they will be bored or will fall asleep if they are separated from their phones.

To me, that’s a risk well worth taking. What is more likely is that they will pay better attention in class.

Some people will no doubt claim that children need their phones in case of emergency.

Sorry, no sale.

First, recall that the United States experienced hundreds of years of private and public education before the cell phone’s invention. This may seem hard to believe, but I’m not foolin’ — check Wikipedia.

In all that time, there must have been, conservatively, several dozen emergencies. Somehow, parents were still able to reach their children.

Secondly, school is arguably one of the easiest places to reach your child, provided she’s not playing hooky. Simply call the front desk and let the magic happen.

All that said, I’d be the first to admit the FCS policy at first blush comes off as a mite heavy-handed.

But the staff should not be blamed. For blame, parents need only check a mirror.

Parents are the first teachers. Children learn boundaries on using cell phones from their parents.

Parents pay the bills, including the cell phone bills. They set the rules.

Back in my day, if I had been caught texting in class, my parents’ punishment would have been swift. This is assuming I’d have been allowed a phone in the first place.

“I’ve told my mom to take my texting away,” FCS sophomore Wally Trevino told a reporter. “It only gets me into trouble.”

Now, Wally was probably joking, at least some. But there’s a kernel of truth in his words that apply to many of his peers.

Peters’ action comes when society seems to be fighting back against cell phone abuse. I wrote on Sunday about local movie theaters’ cracking down on phones. State legislators are considering at least two bills that target talking and texting while driving.

I wish that we could all show a modicum of restraint with our cell phones, but as with alcohol, some people cannot.

I applaud the headmaster and her staff for standing in the gap where more parents should be.
